Aug. 13, 2009
POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. - Marist volleyball head coach Tom Hanna announced on Thursday that Justyna Michon will join his coaching staff as assistant coach. Michon joins the Red Foxes' coaching staff after being an assistant coach with the Long Island Academy of Volleyball. As a player at Dowling College, Michon was a three-time NCAA Division II All-American. "I'm excited about the experience that Justyna brings to our program as a coach and a player," said Hanna. "She's a winner who will do a great job of instilling that into our players and our program." Michon, a 2007 graduate of Dowling College, led the Golden Lions to three consecutive appearances in the NCAA Quarterfinals in 2005, 2006, and 2007. Dowling also won the East Coast Conference championship in each of Michon's four seasons. A four-time All-ECC first team selection, Michon was named an honorable mention All-American by the American Volleyball Coaches Association in 2005 and 2006. As a senior in 2007, Michon was a third team AVCA All-American and a second team Daktronics All-American. A two-time ECAC Player of the Year, Michon is Dowling's career leader in kills with 2,175, second all-time in service aces with 309, and third in career hitting percentage at .357. She had been an assistant coach for the Long Island Academy of Volleyball club team for the last two years before coming to Marist. The Red Foxes open the 2009 season on Friday, August 28 at the Staybridge Suites Rocket Classic in Toledo, Ohio against Kennesaw State.
