Highlights

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. - The Marist softball team concluded its 10-game homestand on Sunday in a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) in a twinbill with Fairfield. The Stags took both games from the Red Foxes 7-3 in game one and 4-3 in game two. Freshman Megan Lamoureux (Woonsocket, R.I.) had three hits and an RBI for the Marist offense.

In game one, Fairfield jumped out to a 2-0 lead with runs in the top of the first and the top of the third innings. Marist would retaliate with two runs of their own to tie the score at two in the bottom of the third.

Junior Alana Woody (Rhinebeck, N.Y.) drove in two runs with a base hit through the middle. The hit scored freshman Nicole DiVirgilio (Aston, Pa.) senior Lindsey Kinel (East Hartford, Conn.).

The Stags regained their two-run lead in the top of the fourth, when Meghan Borst plated Fairfield base runners with a single. The Stags reclaimed the lead, 4-2 through after four innings.

Lamoureux drove in Melissa Giordano (Stamford, Conn.) in the bottom of the fifth on a single to center field. Giordano hit a two-out double to left center field one batter earlier, her team-leading 14th of the season.

In the back end of the games, the Stags vaulted themselves to a 3-0 lead in the top of the second and never looked back. Kayla Marth hit a solo home run and Kristie Trifolis plated two runs on a single to the left side. Marth had two home runs in the contest, the second of which proved to be the game-winner.

Marist scored two in the bottom of the third as Giordano hit her third home run of the season and Kate Malloy (Fair Haven, N.J.) scored on a DiVirgilio single.

The Red Foxes are now 3-3 in the MAAC and stand at 10-22 overall. Marist will return to action on Wednesday, April 8 at 3 p.m. The Red Foxes will travel to Lehigh for a doubleheader with the Mountain Hawks.
