Women's Soccer Continues MAAC Road Trip At Loyola And Rider

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. - The Marist women’s soccer team will wrap up a four-game road trip in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference play this weekend. Friday afternoon the Red Foxes will take on the Loyola Greyhounds, the 2008 regular season champions at 4 p.m. On Sunday, Marist will travel to Rider for a 2 p.m., kick-off with the Broncs in Lawrenceville, N.J. THIS WEEK’S MATCHUPS: Marist will conclude a four-game MAAC road trip at Loyola on Friday, Oct. 9 at 4 p.m., and at Rider on Sunday, Oct. 11 at 2 p.m. LAST TIME OUT: The Red Foxes suffered their first conference loss of the season at Iona on Sunday. Marist dropped a 1-0 decision at Mazella Field, as Amber Blocher scored the lone Gael goal off a corner kick taken by Leah Taylor. SCOUTING LOYOLA (7-4-2, 3-0 MAAC): After two weeks of conference play, the Greyhounds are the last unbeaten team in the MAAC, and most recently shutout Rider at home, 2-0 on Oct. 3. Loyola, picked second in the MAAC preseason coaches poll, is led by Nichole Schiro and Kelly Thomas who each have 10 points. Preseason All-MAAC selection Teresa Ferraina ranks third on the squad with nine points, while goalkeeper Brittany Henderson has started 12 matches and made 50 saves. She has compiled a 7-3-2 record and leads the conference with four shutouts. SCOUTING RIDER (4-7-1, 0-3 MAAC): The Broncs returned eight starters to the lineup this season, and is a perfect 3-0 at home this season. They are led by Alex Musumeci who has six goals and an assist this season. In goal, Alex Post has led the Broncs to three wins and a shutout. She has made 26 saves, but has allowed 15 goals in the process this season. Rider will host Siena on Friday before it plays Marist on Sunday. LOOKING AHEAD: Marist will return to Tenney Stadium for its final homestand of the season. It will host Columbia on Tuesday, Oct. 13, Canisius on Friday, Oct. 16 and Niagara on Sunday, Oct. 18. PROGRAM UNBEATEN STREAK RECORD EQUALED: With Friday’s 1-1 draw at Fairfield, the Red Foxes equaled the program record for longest unbeaten streak at six matches. This feat has been accomplished two other times: 2001 and 2007. Marist won the MAAC regular season title in each of those years. FOX WATCH: Senior Kate Fox has scored at least one point in five of Marist’s last seven matches. She now has 51 career points, and stands at second on both Marist’s all-time goals list and all-time points list. She is tied for seventh all-time in assists with seven.
