POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. - Marist seniors Ali Carnabuci (Albertson, N.Y.) and Liz Burkhard (Wantagh, N.Y.) both nabbed some headlines in the women's lacrosse world after Marist's championship weekend. Carnabuci's goal to put Marist up 1-0 over the Canisius Golden Griffins on Friday was the fastest to start a game in NCAA women's lacrosse history, and Burkhard was named Honorable Mention Player of the Week by WomensLacrosse.com.

Carnabuci's goal came off a beautiful feed from junior Stephanie Garland (Long Valley, N.J.) just eight seconds into the tournament semifinal versus the Griffs. Three other players have previously scored eight seconds into a contest including Virginia's Heather Goehringer ('94) and Towson's Stephanie Howell ('02). Carnabuci went on to score four goals in the game and had seven points in the tournament.

Burkhard was honored after a weekend in which she made 31 saves and was named the MAAC Tournament's Most Outstanding Player. She was a huge reason why the Red Fox defense held Fairfield to one second half goal. Burkhard and the Marist `D' enabled the offense to erase an 8-4 halftime deficit. This is second time this season she has been honored by the WomensLacrosse.com.

Marist will take on Colgate of the Patriot League on Saturday at noon in an NCAA Play-In game. The winner will advance into the NCAA Tournament field of 16.
