Noelle Cebron has just completed her third year as head coach of the Marist women's lacrosse team. During her time so far, Cebron led Marist to its fifth and sixth consecutive Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Tournament appearances. She has helped nationalize recruiting, with players from eight different states (and the District of Columbia) including California, Colorado and Maryland. In the past two seasons, she has vastly expanded the Red Foxes' opponent base, traveling to a variety of opponents including Saint Mary's (CA), UC-Davis, Oregon, New Hampshire and Florida to face the University of Denver.
In her three years, Cebron has helped Marist earn five First Team All-MAAC selections, five Second Team All-MAAC Selections and four All-Tournament Team selections. She also recruited and coached last year's MAAC Rookie of the Year, Lindsey Diener, who led the conference in goals scored and points. A Nanuet, N.Y. native, Diener ended the 2005 season ranked third nationally in goals per game with 3.6.
The 2006 squad, which included 14 freshmen and 10 sophomores, just missed out on a trip to the MAAC Tournament. In 2005, Cebron's squad achieved a 5-10 record overall, 4-3 in the MAAC. She took the team to its sixth consecutive MAAC Tournament berth, falling to defending and eventual champion Manhattan, 11-10 in triple overtime in the semifinals. In her first year at the helm, Cebron guided the Red Foxes to a 7-10 overall record and a 4-2 mark in the MAAC, good for a second place finish. Her squad was upset by third seed and eventual champion Manhattan.
Cebron expects excellence from her student athletes in the classroom as well as on the field. Marist lacrosse has had 22 MAAC All-Academic selections during the past three seasons, including a league-high eight selections in 2006. In 2005, Marist was one of 34 Division I programs recognized with the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association's National Academic Team Award for tallying a team GPA of 3.0 or higher through the second semester.
Throughout the Marist athletic department, the women's lacrosse team has become known for its commitment to community service on and off campus. Each semester, the department sponsors the Red Fox Challenge in which teams are awarded points for a variety of non-athletic activities including: community service, athletes supporting athletes and academic success. Coach Cebron's squad has won four times including a 1000 point spread over the second place team this past spring.
Cebron began her coaching career as an assistant at her alma mater Temple University, from where she graduated in 2002. As an assistant, she helped guide the Owls to an Atlantic-10 Championship and a berth in the NCAA Tournament.
During her four-year career at Temple, Cebron helped lead the Owls to two consecutive Atlantic-10 Championships and NCAA tournament appearances. She also holds a spot in the Temple record books, owning the single-season assists record and ranking second all-time on the career assist list with 88. She also holds the fifth highest total for points in a single season.
As a four-year letter-winner with the Owls, Cebron enjoyed her best season as a senior. In that campaign she broke the Temple single-season school record with 37 assists, on her way to leading the team in all three offensive categories, and being named a Division I All-American. Cebron also earned First Team All-Conference and All-Championship honors in addition to being named First Team All Mid-Atlantic. As a senior, selected to play as in the North/South Senior All-Star game, an honor reserved for twenty players in the eastern half of the country.
Cebron also boasts a wealth of experience teaching the game to youth, having founded her own club program and having worked at many of the top women's lacrosse camps nationwide.
In 2004, Cebron founded the Spitfire Lacrosse Club, based in northern Westchester County and designed to offer a maximum lacrosse experience for elite middle and high school female players. Spitfire was developed as a specialized program to supplement a high school career with expert coaching and the highest level of competition year-round for those who desire to compete at the next level. The mission of Spitfire Lacrosse is to provide character building growth opportunities within the sport of women's lacrosse by teaching the positive values of lacrosse and life and helping its players achieve success through teamwork, dedication, commitment, skill development, sportsmanship and good decision-making skills.
In addition to running Spitfire, during the past eight summers Cebron has traveled the East Coast working camps, including the All-American Lacrosse Camp and the Maryland Specialty Camp, both in conjunction with the University of Maryland. She has also assisted at the Villanova Lacrosse Camp, NIKE Lacrosse Camps around the region and at the Hudson Valley Lacrosse Camp. In 2006, Cebron hosted the Marist Lacrosse camp for the first time.
A native of Yorktown, N.Y., Cebron currently resides in Poughkeepsie.
