#22/22 Marist Earns Seventh Seed In NCAA Tournament, Will Take On DePaul
March 17, 2008 POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. - After winning their third Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Tournament championship and earning an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament, the #22/22 Marist women's basketball team earned a seven-seed in the New Orleans Region of this year's tournament. The Red Foxes will take on the tenth-seeded DePaul Blue Demons of the Big East on Saturday, March 22 in Baton Rouge, La., as the NCAA released the bracket Monday night. Tipoff is scheduled for 8 p.m. eastern time and will be televised on ESPN2. This will be the first-ever meeting between the Red Foxes and Blue Demons. Marist enters the NCAA Tournament 31-2 after becoming the first team since the MAAC expanded to ten teams to go 18-0 in conference play and rolling through the MAAC tournament. The Red Foxes have won their last 21 games, the second-longest winning streak in the country. DePaul, out of the Big East, earned an at-large bid after finishing the regular season 20-11 and went 8-8 in conference play. The Blue Demons fell to Connecticut 86-67 in the Big East Tournament quarterfinals. The winner of this game will take on the winner of second-seed LSU and 15th seed Jackson State. The Red Foxes reached the Sweet 16 in the 2007 NCAA Tournament as a 13th seed. They defeated the fourth seed Ohio State and fifth seed Middle Tennessee State in Palo Alto, Calif. to reach the Regional Semifinals in Dayton, Ohio. Marist fell to eventual national champions Tennessee 65-46 in the Sweet 16.
