Carow Wins Pole Vault At MAAC Championships

LAWRENCEVILLE, N.J. - Junior Max Carow (Fanwood, N.J.) of the Marist men's outdoor track and field team won the pole vault at the 2009 MAAC Championships on Sunday at Rider University, prevailing with a leap of 4.17 meters. As a team, the Red Foxes placed fourth with a total of 77 points. A day after placing second in the 10K, sophomore Timothy Keegan (Huntington, N.Y.) took third in the 5K in 15:00.59. The 1,600-meter relay team of senior Michael Cocca (Suffield, Conn.), junior Colin Frederickson (Albany, N.Y.), sophomore Alexander Cuesta (Montgomery, N.J.) and sophomore John Carabetta (Park Ridge, N.J.) placed second in 3:30.71. Cocca also took sixth in the 200 dash (23.95), while the 400 dash saw Frederickson (third, 51.38) and Carabetta (sixth, 52.12) earn scoring positions. The 400 relay team of freshman Michael McCloskey (Latham, N.Y.), freshman Neal Viets (Farmingdale, N.Y.), sophomore John Kristie (Wantagh, N.Y.) and Tom Devaney was third in a time of 46.36. Freshman Kyle Havard (Atlantic Highlands, N.Y.) was third in the 800 in 1:59.42. The Red Foxes also got a couple of fifth-place finishes from Michael Clifford and junior Greg Masto (Schenectady, N.Y.) in the 110 hurdles and high jump, respectively. Clifford's time was 15.29 seconds, and Masto's distance was 1.69 meters. In the 1500, freshman William Griffin (Columbia, Conn.) took sixth in 4:01.99.
Manhattan won the team championship with a score of 225 points. |
