Carow Breaks School Record In Pole Vault At Yale
April 27, 2009
NEW HAVEN, CT -- Junior Max Carow (Fanwood, NJ) broke his own school record in the pole vault, and freshman Tom Lipari (Greenvale, NY) won the 3,000-meter steeplechase, leading the Marist College men's track team at the Yale Springtime Invitational, held on a blazing hot Sunday afternoon at Yale University. Carow cleared 4.27 meters (exactly 14 feet), eclipsing the previous school record of 4.25 meters, which he set earlier this season at the Dick Shea Open at West Point. Carow placed second in the event. Lipari, the fifth seed in the steeplechase, took top honors in the grueling event in 9:49.51. The time was seven seconds slower than his previous best, but the intense heat of the day took its toll on all entrants. Also in that event, junior Conor Shelley (Rockville Centre, NY) ran a personal-best time of 10:13.01. In the 1,500-meter run, freshman Curtis Jensen (Atlantic Highlands, NJ) won his heat and earned a personal-best time of 4:04.69. Sophomore Zak Smetana (Niskayuna, NY) improved his personal-best with a strong showing in 4:06.68. Senior captain Mike Cocca (Suffield, CT) had a strong day in the sprints, posting times of 11.40 in the 100-meter dash and 23.11 in the 200-meter dash, rounding into peak form for the final MAAC Championships of his career later this week. Junior Colin Frederickson (Colonie, NY) ran a personal-best time of 50.37 in the 400-meter dash. The men's track team returns to action Saturday and Sunday at the MAAC Championships at Rider University. Individual Results 200-meter dash
