Carow Breaks School Record In Pole Vault At West Point
March 29, 2009 WEST POINT, NY - Junior Max Carow (Fanwood, NJ) continued his record-setting ways in the pole vault, leading the Marist College men's track team at the season-opening Dick Shea Open at the United States Military Academy. After breaking his own school mark to end the indoor season, he broke his 1-year-old outdoor school record with a third-place leap of 4.25 meters. This eclipses his 2008 mark of 4.12 meters. Carow finished second in the event at the 2009 MAAC Indoor Track Championships. On the track, there were several personal-best performances to start the spring season. In the 1,500-meter run, junior Colin Johnson (Clark, NJ) made a remarkable 8-second improvement in the event with his time of 4:05.78. In the same event, sophomore Nick Webster (Latham, NY) notched the fastest time of the day for the Red Foxes, a personal-best time of 4:04.90. Other outdoor personal-best performance on the track included: Sophomore Zak Smetana (Niskayuna, NY) in the 5,000-meter run (15:47.58), freshman Ryan Brown (Monroe Township, NJ) in the 5,000 (16:27.91); sophomore Patrick Duggan (Rockville Centre, NY) in the 10,000 (33:32.44) and freshman Brian Townsend (East Setauket, NY) in the 10,000 (33:55.24). The Red Foxes return to action on Friday and Saturday at the Sam Howell Invitational at Princeton University.
