Pisecky, Himmelsbach and von Nordheim In Singles Finals At Cornell Tournament

ITHACA, N.Y. - Juniors Nicolas Pisecky (Lausanne, Switzerland), Marcus von Nordheim (Munich, Germany) and sophomore Matt Himmelsbach (Longmeadow, Mass.) of the Marist men's tennis team advanced to the finals of their singles draws in Flights B, D and C, respectively. Each of the players won two matches on Saturday at the Cornell Tournament in Ithaca, N.Y. In the quarterfinals, Pisecky needed three sets to beat Dan Panaranda of Fairleigh Dickinson, 3-6, 6-3, 10-6. In his second match of the day, Pisecky took a straight set win from Ehaneiri Bhandar of Cornell, 6-3, 6-4. Pisecky will compete in the Flight B singles finals on Sunday morning. In Flight D, von Nordheim won two straight set matches in routine fashion on Saturday. He bested Brandon Gallegos of Niagara, 6-1, 6-1 in the quarterfinals. In the semifinals, the Marist junior got past Matt King of Temple, 6-4, 6-4. Himmelsbach also won two straight set matches over opponents from Temple and Binghamton on Saturday. In the quarterfinal round, Himmelsbach prevailed over Dmitry Vizhunov of Temple, 6-4, 6-2. Himmlesbach won his semifinal matchup by an identical score over Ruben Devos of Binghamton. Marist will return to action on Sunday, Nov. 1 as it concludes play at the Cornell Tournament.
