ANNAPOLIS, MD. - The Marist men's tennis team completed a perfect 3-0 weekend as it opened the fall season at the Navy Invitation. On Sunday the Red Foxes defeated the Duquesne Dukes 6-3, behind two doubles victories and four straight set singles victories.

Marist took the top three singles spots for the second time this weekend. Senior Christian Coley (Glastonbury, Conn.) won at first singles. He defeated Jeremy McClelland, 6-2, 6-2. Classmate Loic Sessagesimi (Blonay, Switzerland) bested Mark Maciuch by the same score of 6-2, 6-2. Junior Nicolas Pisecky (Lausanne, Switzerland) prevailed over Gustavo Villares, 7-6 (11-9), 7-5.

In doubles action, Marist rolled in the first and second spots of the lineup. Coley and Marcus von Nordheim (Munich, Germany) beat McClelland and Maciuch, 8-2. Sessagesimi and Hank Bessinger (Klovis, Calif.) rolled past Bryan Roberts and Kyle O'Leary, 8-1.

"Our team's behavior the entire tournament was exemplary," head coach Tim Smith said. "This was an excellent start to our season because our players competed at a high level all weekend."

Despite the fact that the teams are playing head-to-head, the matches do not count as duals for the teams' overall records. It is a flighted tournament with champions to be determined by the end of the weekend.

Marist returns to the courts on Wednesday, Sept. 23. The Red Foxes will travel to Loudonville, N.Y., for a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference dual match with the Siena Saints. First serves are scheduled for 7 p.m.
