FAIRFIELD, CONN. - The Marist men's tennis team lost its first match of the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) season to the #85 Fairfield Stags on Wednesday, 5-2. Freshman Matt Himmelsbach (Longmeadow, Mass.) beat MAAC Player of the Week Chip Palumbo at sixth singles 6-3, 6-0 in the loss.

Himmelsbach has been perfect in MAAC play at sixth singles this season, a 6-0 mark in his rookie campaign. Palumbo, ranked 106th in the country, lost his first dual match of the season, falling to 15-1 overall and 5-1 in the conference. The win for Himmelsbach also snapped a 15 match win streak for Palumbo.

Junior Loic Sessagesimi (Blonay, Switzerland) also completed a perfect MAAC season with a victory over Dan Sauter. Sauter was forced to retire in the second set. The final score was 7-6 (9-7), 4-3 ret.

Marist will return to action on Thursday, April 9 at 6 p.m. The Red Foxes host the New Jersey Institute of Technology at the East Campus Tennis Pavilion.
