Men's Soccer To Host Siena On Senior Day Friday Night

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. - The Marist men's soccer team will host its final regular season match on Friday, Nov. 6 at 7 p.m., as Siena comes to Poughkeepsie for Senior Day. Prior to the match, the Marist Department of Athletics will honor the team’s three seniors: Matt Boyd, Kevin Brown and Tyler DeBari. LAST TIME OUT: The Red Foxes dropped two one-goal matches in Western New York last weekend. On Friday, Joe Touloumis gave Marist a one goal lead in the 35th minute. But Canisius scored a goal in the second half to tie, and won it in overtime in the 96th minute. On Sunday, Marist was shutout by Niagara 1-0. SCOUTING SIENA (8-7-3, 3-3-2 MAAC): The Saints are 0-2-1 in their last three matches, and stand in sixth place in the MAAC with 11 points. Siena’s top three scorers are all freshmen, two of which have been named MAAC Rookie of the Week in the last three periods. They include Emery Welshman and Matthew Kadoch, while Sindre Ek rounds out the trio. Phil Chabot has started 15 games for the Saints and maintains a goals against average of 1.56 and has made 67 saves this season. ACADEMIC ALL-DISTRICT AGAIN: For the second straight year, Joe Touloumis has been named Academic All-Distrtict by ESPN The Magazine as selected by CoSIDA. This season he was named to the first team in District I. He is just the second student-athlete in Marist history to be named all-district twice. Alyson Fiorello was the first in 2002-03 and 2003-04 as a member of the swimming and water polo teams. OVER .500 WITH A WIN: If the Red Foxes win its match Friday, it will ensure that the team will have a winning percentage greater than .500 for the first time in four seasons. From 2003-2005, Marist had three straight winning seasons, and won two MAAC Championships. PROTECTING TENNEY IN THE MAAC: Marist is unbeaten in its last two MAAC matches at home as the team tied Loyola 2-2 on Friday, Oct. 23 and held Rider scoreless on Sunday, Oct. 25 in a 2-0 victory. SENIOR SEND OFF: Three seniors will play at Tenney Stadium at Leonidoff Field for the final time Friday night. Matt Boyd, Kevin Brown and Tyler DeBari have combined to play in 177 matches in their four-year careers. SCORE FIRST, GET THE RESULT: When the Red Foxes score the first goal in the match, the team has registered a 6-1-1 record. It relinqished its first lead of the season on Friday at Canisius in a 2-1 overtime defeat. LUCAS LEADS THE WAY: Sophomore Lucas Szabo is one of three players in the country with four assists in a single game this season, which leads the nation. Szabo joined Phil Bannister of Loyola, and Michael Nanchoff of #1 Akron. He assisted on all four of Marist’s goals against Saint Peter’s in a 4-2 victory on Sunday. REGIONAL RANKING: Marist was ranked in the NSCAA North Atlantic Region for seven weeks during the regular season. The Red Foxes reached as high as three in the poll in the second week of the season
