Marist Men's Soccer Adds Seven For 2009 Season

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. - Head Coach Matt Viggiano of the Marist men's soccer team announced the addition of seven players to his roster for the upcoming 2009 season. The Red Foxes will gain six incoming freshmen and one transfer. The group has five from New York and two from Connecticut. "We feel we have added a group of players that will seamlessly transition and contribute to our program," Viggiano said. "This class will compliment the components we already have in place to help reach our goal of qualifying for the [Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference] championship." Stephan Brossard, 5-11/165, Forward/Midfield, Port Washington, N.Y./Paul D. Schreiber Brossard was a two-time All-County selection in Nassau County, as well as an All-Long Island and All-State selection as a senior. He has played for two years with BW Gottschee. Brossard scored two goals in one match against the United States Youth National Team. Pablo Cameselle, 6-4/175, Defense, Greenwich, Conn./Greenwich Cameselle went to the FCIAC Championship game in back-to-back years, capturing the title as a junior, and finishing as a runner-up in his senior season. He played center back for both his high school and club team, Yankee United. Zachary Colbert, 5-9/165, Midfield/Defense, Clifton Park, N.Y./Shenendehowa Colbert's high school team was ranked 14th in New York State during his senior season, as Shenendehowa won the Suburban Blue Division Championship and reached the Class 'AA' semifinals in the state tournament. His club team, the Blackwatch Griffins, reached the finals of the Surf Cup Invitational, and the Jefferson Cup, while the team won the Potomac Championship. Joey Dalleo, 5-7/138, Midfield, Marlboro, N.Y./Our Lady of Lourdes
A four-year starter at Our Lady of Lourdes High School, Dalleo garnered four all-league selections, as well as three first team all-section selections. He has played with the Bethlehem Knights and Middlepath FC for five years in the Premier League. Dalleo has played in the Northeast Premier League and Eastern New York Premier League. In addition to his wealth of club soccer experience, Dalleo has played internationally in England. Josh Lavorato, 5-9/155, Midfield, Rochester, N.Y./Aquinas Institute Lavorato was crowned 2006 New York State Champion at the Aquinas Institue; he was named MVP. Lavorato was a team captain of the Aquinas Lil' Irish reaching the sectional finals in both 2007 and 2008. A three-time NYSW champion (2004-2006), he played club soccer for the Rochester Jr. Rhinos, who reached the regional finals in 2004 and regional semifinals in 2005. Joe Pilla, 6-1/195, Goalkeeper, Watertown, Conn./Southern Connecticut Pilla joins the Red Foxes after he played two seasons for Southern Connecticut State University. He played in five games with the Owls in 2007, starting four. Pilla posted a 1.79 goals against average in 402 minutes in net. He played four years of varsity soccer at Watertown High School, where he was named All-Conference First Team as a junior and senior. Pilla was named All-State after his senior year. For his efforts during his senior season at Watertown, he was select to play in the Connecticut Senior Bowl. Nicholas Pourakis, 5-8/163, Defense/Midfield, East Fishkill, N.Y./John Jay Pourakis was a three-year varsity starter at John Jay High School. He was a two-time Section I All-League selection and was named all-section in 2007. John Jay won the league, section and regional championships en route to state semifinals appearance in 2007. Pourakis was a five-year starter for FC Westchester and four-time captain. His club team reached the New York State finals in 2006. Played for Academy U-18 team where he won the starting center back job, and has also spent three years with the ODP program. The Red Foxes will open the 2009 season on Tuesday, Sept. 1 as they host the Delaware Blue Hens at Tenney Stadium at Leonidoff Field. Kick-off is slated for 7 p.m. |
