2010 Marist Men's Lacrosse Schedule

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. - Marist men's lacrosse head coach Scott Nelson released his team's 2010 schedule on Tuesday and also announced the selection of four captains for the 2010 season. Senior midfielders Matt Francis (Lansdale, Pa.) and Matt Teichmann (Huntington, N.Y.), senior goalie Sam Altiero (Randolph, N.J.), and junior defensemen Nick Armstrong (Kings Park, N.Y.) will be Marist's captains for the upcoming lacrosse season.

"I feel that the team has selected four good leaders as captains," said Nelson, who is entering his second season as Marist head coach. "Not only are they great lacrosse players, but they are also great students."

Francis became Marist's main face-off midfielder in 2009, and finished the season in the top-10 in the country in both ground balls per game and face-off percentage. He was fifth in the nation in ground balls per game with 6.46 per game, and seventh in face-off percentage by winning 57.6% of his face-offs. Francis had seven games in 2009 where he had a face-off percentage of at least 60%. Teichmann comes off a season where he was fourth on the team in points with 17. He had a stretch of eight games in 2009 with at least one point, including two goals and two points in Marist's 14-7 win over VMI on April 4.

Armstrong started 12 of 13 games last season, his first as a defensemen after playing defensive-midfielder as a freshman. He had three five ground-ball games last season and was second on the team in ground balls with 41. Altiero will step in as Marist's starting goalie in 2010, replacing graduated senior Ryan Penner. He appeared in four games last season, making 10 saves in 51:35 of action.
