Marist Alum Bittner Named California League Pitcher Of The Week
Aug. 26, 2003 Rancho Cucamongo, CA - Former Marist College pitcher, Tim Bittner, was named the California League Pitcher of the Week on August 25th. The southpaw starter for the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes, of the Anaheim Angels orginization, is the fourth Quake pitcher to earn the honor this season. For the week of August 18-24, Bittner went 2-0 in two starts, including a complete-game shutout of Lake Elsinore, and allowed zero runs, seven hits, and struck out 12 over that span. Rancho Cucamongo is an 'A' affiliate of the Angels, who play in the California League. The 'advanced A' squad, was the first-half champions of the California League North Division. In five starts with the Quakes, Bittner is 4-0 with an ERA of 0.00. In 27.2 innings pitched, he has yet to allow an earned run, and has held opponents to a .140 batting average. In his time with the Quakes, Bittne has fanned 27 batters, while walking only 11. Bittner, the Red Foxes highest-ever draft pick, in the 10th round of the 2001 MLB Draft was acquired from the Chicago White Sox on July 29 in a deal that also netted the Angels major-league pitcher Gary Glover and minor-league pitchers Doug Nickle and Scott Dunn in exchange for pitcher Scott Schoeneweis. A 6-2, 200-pound lefty, Bittner made 17 appearances for the Winston-Salem Warthogs and was 3-3 with one save and a 3.60 ERA at the time of the trade.
