Wiley Named MAAC Relief Pitcher Of The Year; Nugent, Putnam Named Second Team All-MAAC

TRENTON, N.J. - Marist senior closer Jacob Wiley (Cape Vincent, N.Y.) was named Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Relief Pitcher of the Year on Wednesday at the conference's pre-tournament banquet. Additionally, red-shirt sophomore catcher Bryce Nugent (Binghamton, N.Y.) and sophomore pitcher Kyle Putnam (New Windsor, N.Y.) were named Second Team All-MAAC. Wiley leads the Red Foxes in wins (seven), saves (five), appearances (26) and earned run average (2.59). He is 6-0 with five saves and a 1.38 ERA in his last 21 appearances. Nugent, who was named MAAC Player of the Week on Feb. 23, has a team-high eight home runs this season to go along with a .323 average and 40 runs batted in. He has an on-base percentage of .421 and a slugging percentage of .528. Putnam is 4-3 with a 3.95 earned run average with one save and three complete games this season. He is 4-1 with a 2.31 ERA and three complete games in his last six starts. Canisius third baseman Kevin Mahoney was named MAAC Player of the Year. Mike Gazzola of Manhattan was named the conference's Pitcher of the Year. Siena second baseman Dan Paolini was named MAAC Rookie of the Year, and Manhattan's Kevin Leighton was named Anaconda Sports Coach of the year. Two Red Foxes -- sophomore infielder Ricky Pacione (Newburgh, N.Y.) and sophomore infielder Daniel Albino (Bronx, N.Y.) -- were named to the MAAC All-Academic Team. Marist, the third seed in the 2009 MAAC Baseball Championships, will face second-seeded Canisius on Thursday at 4 p.m. There will be a live broadcast of the game available on GoRedFoxes.com beginning at 3:45.
