JERSEY CITY, N.J. -- Marist baseball fans can click on this story for a blog of Sunday's Marist-Saint Peter's game. Updates can be accessed by clicking on the Refresh button or by clicking F5 on this story. The start time for today's game has been moved up to 10 a.m., two hours earlier than the originally scheduled starting time of noon.

Good morning ladies and gentlemen and welcome to Jaroschak Field in Jersey City, N.J., for the finale of this weekend's three-game series between Marist and Saint Peter's! I'm Marist Sports Information Director Mike Ferraro, and I will be providing updates from today's game until the conclusion. Feel free to send any comments/questions to me at Michael.J.Ferraro@Marist.edu.

Today's first order of business is explain why we're playing at 10 a.m. The weather forecast for Jersey City today is, frankly, not good. We arrived at the ballpark at 9:15 (no reason to get here any earlier; there was no BP and no infield/outfield) with sprinkles greeting us. It's dry for now, but the weather is expected to become significantly worse between noon and 1 p.m. If this game started at noon, there would be little chance of getting it all in. With a 10 a.m. start, we may be able to sneak through the dry window.

9:55: Field preparations are still taking place. This game should probably start somewhere around 10:05.

10:05: And we're off!

Here's the Marist lineup:

Richard Curylo, SS
Jon Schwind, CF
Ricky Pacione, 2B
Bryce Nugent, DH
Brian McDonough, LF
George Agostini, 3B
Ryan Gauck, 1B
Andrew Stanton, C
Kyle Meyer, RF

And on the mound, it's junior right-hander B.J. Martin, who's trying to win his fourth straight start.

Couple notes on the lineup ... Stanton gets the start behind the plate after Nugent started both games of yesterday's doubleheader, but Bryce's hot bat keeps him in the DH spot. ... Agostini starts at third after coming off the bench in yesterday's second game.

The Red Foxes will be facing Saint Peter's right-hander Craig Hughes.

TOP 1ST

Curylo goes down looking. So does Schwind. Pacione, after thinking he got hit by a pitch, ground out to first unassisted. Three up, three down, and up come the Peacocks.

BOTTOM 1ST

B.J. Martin will be facing this lineup:

Justyn Carter, 2B
Sean McFadden, LF
Brian Koster, 1B
Garrett Duross, RF
Conor Mullee, SS
Mike McGuire, DH
Andrew Martirano, 3B
John Lynch, C
Mike Garcia, CF

Carter lines one to left, and McDonough makes a sliding catch -- how many of those has he made lately. McFadden strikes out looking. Koster strikes out swinging, and after the pitch gets past Stanton, he throws to first to complete the strikeout 2-3.

A 1-2-3 inning for B.J., and we're scoreless after one.

TOP 2ND

Nugent lines out to first. McDonough goes down swinging at a foul tip. Agostini goes down swinging as well.

Hughes has retired the first six Red Foxes he's faced, and it's 0-0 going to the bottom of the second.

BOTTOM 2ND

Martin fans Duross. Mullee lines a single to right-center which is cut off by Schwind in the gap -- making him the first baserunner for either side in the game. McGuire then homers to center over the 400-foot sign, giving Saint Peter's a 2-0 lead. Martirano hits one through the box, which Martin deflects on its way to center field for a hit. On a hit-and-run, Lynch singles just past the dive of Agostini at third, and Martirano slides into third safely, putting men on the corners with one out. Lynch tries to steal second, and Stanton throws him out -- score it 2-6 as Curylo applies the tag. Two down, and now Martin strikes out Garcia to end the inning.

Saint Peter's gets two, but the Red Foxes escape further trouble. It's 2-0 after two.

TOP 3RD

Gauck pops one high to left, which McFadden catches at the line for the first out. After falling behind 0-2, taking a couple pitches and fouling off a few more, Stanton homers to left-center. It's his second blast of the year, and the Red Foxes cut the deficit to 2-1.

That was Marist's first baserunner of the day, and did Stanton ever make that count.

Meyer flies out to right for the second out. Curylo strikes out swinging.

It's 2-1 Saint Peter's going to the bottom of the third.

BOTTOM 3RD

The weather.com radar shows a lot of green, but not dark green. It's drizzling, but it doesn't look like it will be getting any better or worse anytime soon.

Carter hits a flare to first, which Gauck snags for the first out. McFadden lofts a pop-up into foul territory left side, and Curylo makes a running catch for the second out right in front of the "out of play" line. Koster belts a double down the right-field line. Duross goes down swinging to end the inning for Martin's fifth K of the day.

And after three, the Peacocks lead 2-1.

TOP 4TH

Schwind leads off with a single to left-center. Pacione draws a walk, putting runners on first and second with none out. Nugent grounds one hard to second, but Carter fields and throws to Mullee for one, who gets it back to first in time for the double play. However, Schwind moves up to third. McDonough strikes out swinging on a full-count pitch to end the inning.

Saint Peter's maintains a 2-1 lead.

BOTTOM 4TH

Mullee lines Martin's first pitch into left for a leadoff single. He then steals second on the first pitch to McGuire. Mullee then attempts to steal third, but is thrown out by Stanton. McGuire then hits his second homer of the day, a blast to left field well over the 318 sign and not far on the correct side of the foul pole to put the Peacocks up 3-1. Martirano then pops one into short left, and Curylo goes out to make the catch for the second out. Martin strikes out Lynch to end the inning for his sixth strikeout of the morning.

But on McGuire's second homer of the day, the Peacocks take a 3-1 lead.

TOP 5TH

Agostini strikes out. So does Gauck, looking. Stanton strikes out as well.

This is now an official game, as Saint Peter's leads 3-1.

BOTTOM 5TH

Martin strikes out Garcia. Carter hits a one-hopper to second, which Pacione fields and throws to first for the second out. McFadden grounds one up the middle, which Curylo makes a diving stop on, but his throw to first is too late to retire the speedy McFadden. Martin throws a pickoff attempt away, and McFadden advances to second. But he's stranded there and Koster grounds to first, and Gauck takes it to the bag for the third out.

After five, it's 3-1 Peacocks. Can the Marist offense get something going against Hughes?

TOP 6TH

Meyer strikes out -- Hughes' fifth consecutive strikeout. After working the count full, Curylo lines a double down the left-field line. Schwind works the count full, and skies one to left, which is put away by McFadden for the second out. Curylo tags, but only to draw a throw. Pacione draws a walk, putting runners at first and second with two down. But Nugent pops up to third for the final out.

The Red Foxes put some good at-bats together, but can't make a dent in the two-run deficit, as the Peacocks lead 3-1.

BOTTOM 6TH

The rain is starting to come down a bit harder, and a look at the radar shows that it's not going to get better anytime soon. Still not enough to call out the tarp.

Duross with a soft grounder which Martin comes off the mound to field and flip to first for out number one. Mullee singles through the right side. McGuire, who has two homers in this game, walks on four pitches. Martirano then grounds one to short. Curylo flips to second for one, and Gauck scoops Pacione's one-hopper for the third out.

Martin pitches out of a slight jam, and it's 3-1 Saint Peter's going to the seventh.

TOP 7TH

McDonough pops one about 10 feet in front of the plate on the first-base line, which Hughes catches for the first out. Agostini draws a one-out walk. Gauck strikes out looking for the second out. Stanton, whose homer in the third has accounted for Marist's only run of this game, loops one into center for a base hit. Agostini stops at second. Two on and two down for Meyer, who is hit by a pitch to load the bases.

It's Meyer's 13th hit by pitch of the season, and it comes on the last pitch Hughes will throw today. Head coach Derek England comes out and pulls him for senior righty Frank Flynn (0-3, 9.16). He'll face Curylo with the bases loaded and two down.

On a 2-2 pitch, Curylo hits a comebacker. Flynn bobbles, but fields and fires it to first for the final out. The Red Foxes leave the bases loaded, and it's 3-1 going to the bottom of the seventh.

Once again, we're treated to the sound of the late Harry Caray singing "Take Me Out to the Ballgame," as junior righty Richard Cary makes his way in from the bullpen.

BOTTOM 7TH

Lynch bloops one behind Pacione and in front of Meyer in right for a leadoff single. After failing in two attempts to get down a bunt, Garcia strikes out swinging for the first out. Carter singles down the line, moving Lynch to second with one out. Cary hits McFadden in the foot, loading the bases with one down.

And that'll be it for Cary. Senior lefty Peter Barone will the Red Foxes' third pitcher of the day. The first batter he'll face is the lefty-hitting Koster.

Barone induces a ground ball to second. Pacione flips to Curylo covering for one, but Curylo's throw is wild and scoots past Gauck, allowing Lynch to score from third and Carter to score from second to give the Peacocks a 5-1 lead. Duross then flies out to Meyer in right to end the inning.

Saint Peter's leads 5-1 going to the eighth.

TOP 8TH

Schwind homers to left-center, cutting the Peacocks' lead to 5-2 on his third homer of the season. Pacione lines out to center for the first out. Nugent draws a full-count walk. McDonough singles through the right side, moving Nugent to second with one down. Agostini doubles to left, scoring Nugent to make the score 5-3. McDonough now at third, so it's second and third with one out for Gauck. Gauck skies one deep to center. It's caught by Garcia, but McDonough tags and scores to make it 5-4. Agostini remains at second, and Stanton comes up with two down. Stanton strikes out on a foul tip to end the inning.

The Red Foxes get three to make the score 5-4, and they will have Meyer, Curylo and Schwind due up in the ninth. Barone heads back out to the mound.

BOTTOM 8TH

Mullee walks, and so does McGuire. Cody Haack comes off the bench to pinch-run for McGuire at first. Martirano lays down a perfect bunt along the third-base line. Barone fields, and his throw to first is high, but Pacione jumps to make the catch and comes down on the bag in time for the out.

And that's it for Barone. With runners on second and third and one out, Head Coach Dennis Healy comes out and closer Jacob Wiley comes in.

Lynch pops one into center. Schwind slips coming in, and can't make a diving catch. Both runners score, and Lynch is into second with a double -- his third hit of the day. The Peacocks lead 7-4. Garcia draws a bases-loaded walk.

And the umpires meet ... and that's the game. With the raining coming down too hard, and it not expected to improve, the game is called here in the bottom of the eighth.

Saint Peter's wins 7-4, and the Red Foxes are denied a series sweep. Heading into the final two weekends of MAAC play, the Red Foxes are 11-7 in the MAAC.
