2010 Marist Water Polo Schedule

 

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. - Marist water polo coach Ashleigh Jacobs released the Red Foxes' 2010 schedule on Monday. For the second straight season, Marist will open its campaign at San Diego State. The two teams will meet on Friday, Feb. 5 at 6 p.m. The Red Foxes will play in five in-season tournaments in 2010, including the Marist Invitational at the McCann Natatorium March 20-21.

After the season opener against the Aztecs, Marist will play in the Triton Invitational hosted by UC-San Diego Feb. 6-7. The Red Foxes return to the east coast for the Bucknell Invitational Feb. 13-14. Marist will then play in the ECAC Championships at Princeton Feb. 27-28. The Red Foxes will be the #2 seed at the ECACs in a field that includes MAAC Water Polo League members Iona and Wagner. After a week off, Marist will travel to California once again to play in the San Diego State Invitational March 13-14. The Red Foxes will then play two games at California Baptist on March 15, taking on Colorado State and the host Lancers.

The Red Foxes will play their first home games of the season March 20-21 in the Marist Invitational. They will also host Harvard for a single game on March 27 at 3 p.m. The Red Foxes will then start MAAC Water Polo League play at Villanova on April 3 against St. Francis (NY) and Wagner. On April 10, Marist will play St. Francis and Villanova at Siena. The Red Foxes will then host the MAAC Water Polo League teams at the McCann Natatorium on April 11, taking on Iona at 10:30 a.m. and Siena at 4:30 p.m. After a game at Hartwick on April 14, Marist will play Villanova and Siena at St. Francis on April 17. The Red Foxes close out the regular season on April 18 at Wagner, taking on the Seahawks and Iona.

Marist will host the 2010 MAAC Water Polo League Championships at the McCann Natatorium April 24-25. Last season, the Red Foxes defeated Wagner and Iona to win the 2009 MAAC Water Polo League Championship. Marist became the first team to win the conference two times in a row, and also became the first MAAC Water Polo League team to win a game at the NCAA Tournament. The Red Foxes defeated Cal Lutheran 16-11 to win the seventh-place game at the 2009 NCAA Women's Water Polo Tournament.

Jacobs also announced that seniors Angie Rampton (Simi Valley, Calif.), Samantha Swartz (Harleysville, Pa.), and Hilary Schroeder (Santa Barbara, Calif.) will be the captains of the 2010 team.
